Seeking the benefits of enterprise-wide networks, companies are connecting storage area networks, or SANs, to IP networks in order to pool their storage resources across extended distances. This document summarizes the emerging standards for integrating Fibre Channel SANs into the IP backbone and describes the issues that must be addressed in IP storage architectures to effectively manage and protect business-critical information.
