This guide includes detail instructions to perform an Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) restore and recover of the database from backup tapes using CommVault Galaxy software. The creation of instance, subclient and backup schedules are outlined in a separate document namely the “2nd Level RMAN CommVault Backups User Guide”.
Galaxy provides two general operations that help you retrieve backed up data: browse and restore. Browse operations allow you to view the data that has been backed up. Restore operations retrieve the data from the backup media and restore it to the desired location. While browse and restore operations often go hand in hand, a restore can be performed on demand, without using the browse option. You can perform these operations from the instance level.
Restore Operation section includes detail instructions to perform an Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) restore and recover of the database. The Browse and restore section covers a different method to restore the database. Either method can be used.
